Reporting directly to the Director, Scientific Innovation, the Research Scientist is responsible to design and execute experiments and research activities to support the development and launch of new IVD products on-time and on-budget.  You have a track record of success in the development and/or launch of new IVD device products. You have strong planning skill to prioritize tasks and to adapt the changes when necessary.  You have effective problem-solving skill to remove roadblocks and provide technical advice for the team members.



  • Research and understand the role of proposed new products to be added to the bioLytical product portfolio and source important publications
  • Design, perform, and interpret studies to support the development and launch of new IVD products
  • Contribute feasibility findings of new products, including reaching benchmarks for sensitivity, specificity, and stability.
  • Prepare and provide written documentation (research reports, slides, manuscripts) to summarize and communicate results to management and other stakeholders as needed
  • Research and provide input into the intended use and design requirements for new products. Determine and execute improved technologies used by suppliers, potential partners, competitors and customers.
  • Support Design Control activities and assist in the design and documentation for developing products
    • Develop and Test early concept designs
    • Troubleshoot test results and design challenges as required
    • Prepare preliminary design specifications and draft design verification and validation test plans documentation
    • Execute design verification and validation test plans as required
    • Design and execute required stability studies
    • Initiate and maintain design history files during early phases of product development
    • Participate in risk management activities related with the product under development
  • Analyze and summarize data and write reports to assist with regulatory submissions
  • Assist with providing and analyzing data for meta-analysis white papers and publishing of peer review papers
  • Work with Manufacturing team to translate development outputs into procedures, testing methods and quality control release criteria for large scale production.
  • Improve formulations receipt and process in order to extend the stability, shelf life and enhance the performance of products
  • Assist in other Research and Development activities as required
  • Assist with training of laboratory or other related personnel



The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • PhD or a Master’s degree in a life sciences discipline (preferably biochemistry, microbiology, biology, biotechnology or related science)
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a medical device industry environment
  • Knowledge of and experience with GLP, GMP work and ISO 13485
  • Experience with formulations development an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and written communication skills are required
  • Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training
  • Must have strong analytical and technical writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Access, Excel)
  • Results driven, organized and detail-oriented
